David grew up in Hachita. He attended first thru fifth grade there, and sixth thru twelfth grade in Lordsburg. He graduated in 1973. After graduation he spent several years traveling and working construction. In 1978 he returned to this area to work for Phelps Dodge at the Hidalgo Smelter where he was employed until November 2001. He is currently managing a ranch near Playas. He and his wife Kathy have three children, Kelly, Jason and Trent, and two granddaughters, Ariana and Mauriel.
