First Grade

Reading:

I am currently testing all first grade students for the end of the year DIBELS reading assessment. So far, the results look favorable. Toward the end of May, Mr. Birdwell will have a hardcopy of the K-4 DIBELS assessment scores to review.

 

Spelling:

The students have worked on the following words in spelling: rain, wait, train, paint, brain, stain, gain, were, there, where, boy, toy, joy, now, cow, how, down, brown, when, which, would, should, could, find, kind, their, many, other, first, been, more, who, people, use, water, little, very, after, words, and her.

 

Language Arts:

We have been working on letter and story writing.

 

Math:

In the area of math, students are working on the following objectives: identifying and drawing polygons, subtracting 10 from a number, identifying fractional parts of a set, identifying geometric solids- cubes and cylinders, measuring and drawing line segments to the nearest centimeter, graphing tags on a bar graph, and counting dimes, nickels and pennies.

 

Phonics:

Students are in the process of reviewing all consonant digraphs, trigraphs, vowel digraphs, combinations, prefixes and suffixes.

 

Social Studies: We are almost finished with our New Mexico unit. We hope to have our book completed in the next few weeks.
