Computer Lab:  The new Odyssey program appears to be going well, the students seem to be enjoying it (Reading, Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Integrated Language Arts).  I also do my DIBELS testing during this time and correct papers with my students.  On occasion we play Math Blasters to help sharpen our multiplication and estimating skills.  MAPS testing:  I was very pleased with this class and their progress this time!  Whew!!!!!!!!!!!!

Reading:  Pippi Longstocking by Astrid Lindgren

Pippi Longstocking (Swedish Pippi Långstrump) is a fictional character in a series of children's books by Swedish author Astrid Lindgren.

She is very unconventional, assertive and extraordinarily strong, being able to lift her horse one-handed without difficulty. She frequently mocks and dupes adults she encounters, an attitude likely to appeal to young readers; however, Pippi usually reserves her worst behavior for the most pompous and condescending of adults.

In 1944, Astrid Lindgren sent the manuscript of the book to Bonnier Publishers but they turned it down, which is considered one of the biggest mistakes in publishing history.[citation needed] The manuscript was then sent to and accepted by another publishing company, Rabén and Sjögren. The first four Pippi books were published in 1945–1948, with an additional series of six books published in 1969–1975. Two final stories were printed in 1979 and 2000. The books have been translated in to numerous languages.

At the conclusion of this story we will watch the movie and have Pepparkakor Cookies from Scandinavia

DIBELS:  Will perform the last progress monitoring for the year this week.  It’s been interesting to see where these kids came in at and where they are now.

MAPS:   I was extremely pleased with the progress these students have made since their disastrous showing during the December MAPS testing.  I think it did them good to see (the graphs Mrs. Rudiger) just how low they scored compared to the rest of the school.  I worked on positive thinking and stressed how important these tests were.  I am proud to say that this class came up in everything with the exception of a couple who maintained their scores from last time.  I believe these results showed the students that they are indeed capable of doing well when they set their mind to it and TAKE THEIR TIME.

Field Trip:  We are currently planning our field trip to El Paso.  Our visit will include:  The El Paso Zoo, Insights Science Museum, and Lunch at the Sunland Park Mall, Western Playland, and Pizza at Peter Piper’s.  So far we have deposited $455.00 into our account from pop-ice sales.

Respectfully submitted,
