Glennis Hayes believes that all children can learn when taught in an environment where compassion, dignity, empathy and respect prevail.  Glennis has taught in the Animas Public school since l990.  She holds a Master’s degree with certification in elementary education K-8, special education K-12 and early childhood education 0-7 years. She is also a Developmental Specialist III for the NM Department of Health, Family, Infant/Toddler Program providing early intervention services and support for local families via Life Quest.  In Animas, she has taught second grade, Title I reading and math, enrichment, and preschool.  Glennis served on the Superintendent’s Advisory Committee for three years and on the Animas School Board’s Policy Review Advisory Committee for one year.

In l995, Glennis was the Student’s Choice Award Teacher of the Year for Southern New Mexico , in 2000 she was named Animas Public Schools Teacher of the Year and in 2003 she received the NM State School Board Association’s Excellence for Student Achievement award.  Before coming to Animas, she was the 1987 Teacher of the Year for Sunset High School in Las Vegas , Nevada .  In Las Vegas , she was also awarded a lifetime membership for her work in PTA.  

Glennis has three children, five grandsons and one great grandson.  She truly “lives to teach and only then does she teach to live.”  Glennis and her husband, Eric, reside in Portal, Arizona where he builds homes.
