Jayson
Janzen, Arron McClain and Ever Coss worked as a team to create a website for
the Microsoft bliink web design contest. The site is entitled “I Imagine
my Future”. They competed against other high
school students from across the state.
They’ve worked really hard and won 3rd place in the contest. They will each be receiving an 8 GB Zune and
$100 Visa gift card for their efforts. Currently students are working on personal web
pages as their final assignment for the class.
Graphic Arts
This past
month we worked on Solarization projects, animated
gifs, and motivational posters. They
displayed their work from the year at the Art Expo hosted by Mrs. Massey.
Computer
Applications
Students continued to work on the different phases of their
Teen Entrepreneur business plan.
Including: the company description, logo and tagline creation,
description of products and services, market analysis, business card and
letterhead creation, marketing plan, introductory promotional letter, brochure,
newspaper advertisement, owner’s resume and executive summary. The students
will compile their entire business plan with corrections to present to the
class as their final project.
Keyboarding/Basic
Computers
The majority
of the students in the class have successfully reached their goal of a keying
speed of at least 35 words per minute. They continue to try to improve their
speed and accuracy. This month we’ve
worked on meeting document formatting.
We’ve also used online graphic tools and Photoshop Elements to create
magazine covers and other fun graphic projects.
The students are currently finishing up a “Fast Forward 10 Years”
PowerPoint assignment they will present to the class so that we can see where
everyone thinks they’ll be and what they’ll be doing in 10 years.
Photography
Each of the
students copyrighted, printed and framed two original photographs for the Art
Expo held at the end of April. In
addition they continued to take and edit photos for their Photography Portfolio
they are compiling using iPhoto on the iMacs. This will be their final project for the
year.
Business
Ownership
Students
continued the Financial Planning course.
We have covered budgeting, income and expenses, good debt and bad debt,
using credit wisely, and keeping their money safe and secure using checking or
savings accounts through banks or credit unions.
Business
Professionals of America (BPA)
We will be
holding an organization awards dessert banquet during May to recognize the hard
work of the members of the various organizations. At this banquet all members
of the BPA chapters will be recognized.
Unfortunately due to the “swine flu” National BPA conference had to be
cancelled.
