| Mrs. Kelly Sanchez-Hurt was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil, lived in Santiago, Chile for two years, and then later moved to the United States. She is the oldest of six children and grew up in Santa Rosa, NM where she graduated as Salutatorian from Santa Rosa High School. She then went on to college and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from New Mexico State University in 1983. After graduation, she immediately started her teaching career in Animas, NM and was awarded “Teacher of the Year” in 1993, and is currently a first grade teacher in her twenty-first year of teaching. In June of 1984, she married Lawrence Hurt and lives on the family ranch with their two children, Victoria and Remington. By December of 1999, she completed a Master of Arts Degree in teaching with a 4.0 from Grand Canyon University and continues to take courses that will enhance her teaching skills. She is a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and her hobbies include: reading, writing first grade curriculum books, crocheting, needlepoint, working on the computer, and planting flowers. After all the years of teaching, Mrs. Hurt still enjoys her career and working with her students.
