I was born in Mesa, AZ, and grew up on farms and ranches in various parts of Arizona. I was a Sophomore in High School when my family (The Marcel Mortensen Clan) moved to Animas to farm. I graduated from Animas High in 1966, and attended NMSU for 3 years. I am Married to David Carbine (born and raised in Las Cruces, NM) and we have 3 children, Trina Holder - David jr. - Andrea Argyle. All three children graduated from Animas, and now, 3 of Trina's 4 children are enrolled here also! Our desire to raise our family in Animas was facilitated by the opening of the Phelps Dodge Smelter, and we happily moved here in 1976. I have spent my time supporting my kids through 12 yrs. each of school activities, 26 years as a 4-H sewing leader (9 yr olds are my specialty!), working all of my adult life with kids in our church, and 15 years as a substitute teacher in the Animas school district. It has been a good way to get to know a lot of GREAT kids!! If I had all the time in the world and nothing else to do, I would make quilts, and sew for my grandchildren. When I can snatch a few minutes away, I help my husband in the garden. David & I are grateful to still be in Cotton City - Phelps Dodge lay-offs have circled around us so far. David is my greatest champion and staunchest supporter even when I drag in at 11:00 p.m. from board meetings. |
