Food and Nutrition Syllabus

This course examines nutritional needs of the individual. Emphasis is placed on the relationship of diet to health and on the selection of food to satisfy needs. A strong component in nutrition is stressed as it relates to the life cycle, special dietary needs and nutrition sources. Labs will be part of the learning process.	This class provides information for students to acquire knowledge and skills related to the develipment and care of children. It begins with the impact of parenting on the individual. Prenatal and postnatal care are covered as well as the development of children. This development includes emotional, intellectual, social development as well as physical. Lab work will be done in pre K thru second grade.	This course includes basic skills in apparel selection, fashion design, and garment construction. Emphasis is on applying design and construction principles to select, design, and construct apparel and home fashions. Skills in mathematics, communication and science are reinforced
Grading: *Classwork 25%* This includes being on time, being prepared, and doing the work of the day, and keeping a 3-ring notebook with dividers with extra notebook paper. *Quizzes and Tests 25%* Labs 50% This includes safety in the lab, following rules and instructions, bringing the assigned ingredients, clean up, and evaluation of the lab.	*Daily 25%* This includes keeping a 3-ring notebook with dividers with extra notebook paper, being on time for class and doing the classwork in a timely manner. *Labs 50%* This includes being on time, working with the children as directed, evaluations of the lab experience, and any activities that may be given by the classroom teacher.	*Daily 25%* This includes keeping 3-ring notebook with dividers with extra notebook paper, being on time for class and doing the classwork in a timely manner. Tests and Projects 25% *Labs 50%* This includes following the rules and instructions, providing assigned equipment such as scissors,thread,notions required by chosen pattern, and material needed for the construction of garments/projects assigned.
